A Little Bit About Myself:
Hey there! My name is Kevin and I’m just a guy who has been a dedicated gym rat for the better part of the last 13 years. Not long ago, I realized I was sitting on a wealth of accumulated information which could help people achieve their physique and strength training goals.
That’s why I created this website. I want it to be a resource for people who are serious about achieving their physique and strength goals.
After going vegan over a year ago and seeing how beneficial it was for my physique, I knew I had a unique angle to bring to the fitness world.
I have achieved so much more than I thought was possible.
My Journey From Skinny Green Bean to Plant Based Meathead
I was always that guy picked last in gym class for every single sport. I had no natural athletic ability, and didn’t know how to challenge myself.
Late in my junior year of high school, that was all about to change.
My brother had been building up the home gym in the basement (with space donated by our gracious parents).
It was time to make a change!
At first, my inspiration was to get six pack abs so I could impress girls. Then, I watched the famous documentary Pumping Iron, and I was inspired to become as big and strong as I possibly could.
After my first month of lifting, I knew it was going to take a lot of time and effort before I built an impressive physique. I also knew that it would be worth every second of sweat and hard work.
And it absolutely was.
Here’s a picture of me from April 2020, at ~190 pounds, and vegan for almost a year at this point:
Over the last 13 years, I’ve learned how to push myself, both inside of the gym and outside. I learned that there is a special strength in consistency and dedication. It’s not always the most gifted that wins.
When I first started weight lifting, I was benching less than 100 pounds. After four years of training, I finally hit my dream goal of a 315 pound bench press. My other PRs include a 420 pound low box squat, 170 pound dumbbell rows, and a 520 pound deadlift!
See the 520 deadlift (performed on 4/5/2022):
The confidence I gained from weight lifting motivated me to turn to another discipline: brazilian jiu-jitsu. Here is a picture of me winning the match to take home gold at my first competition:
That wouldn’t have been possible without the principles I learned from lifting weights.
Through Humane Muscle, I want to share my passion and knowledge about both weight lifting and veganism to help you on your own journey.
I’m no expert.
But, I know I have value to offer.
I know I can help you take your physique and strength from newbie to intermediate and beyond.
Throughout all of this, I will smash the well-known stereotypes about veganism and strength training, namely that you can’t get big and strong living a vegan lifestyle. I have proven that this is not true. So many vegans have, and this blog will be another weapon in that fight!
To the non-vegans reading this, for you, this blog can easily serve as a training and home gym resource. And, if you get intrigued, head on over to the Vegan Bodybuilding section. We’d love to have you!
Peace to all
Kevin
