6 KILLER Weight Benches for Small Spaces [2023 Upd.]

What are the top three qualities to look for in a weight bench for small spaces?

  1. Size – length, width, and weight should all be on the lower end
  2. Stability – just because you’re looking for a compact bench doesn’t mean you should sacrifice quality
  3. Foldability – folding weight benches make it even easier to save space

Using these qualities to guide my research, I’ve found 3 flat and 3 adjustable space-saving weight benches which won’t break the bank. Or your back!

Not sure if you should buy a flat or adjustable bench? Read this article to help you determine which type is best for you.

Who is this Bench Designed for?

Lifters looking for a space-saving, dependable, and strong weight bench to last for years.

The Flybird adjustable weight bench has been the bestselling weight bench on Amazon for almost the last two years. And for good reason.

First off, this bench just works. Almost every other bench you’re going to find on Amazon has some issue with it. And it’s usually pretty obvious. But, I had to spend hours just trying to find anything obviously wrong with this bench! That’s a good sign.

With an awesome 700 pound weight capacity, this thing is an absolute beast. What’s even crazier is it only weighs 26 pounds! I would caution against pushing all the way to 700 pounds, but the truth is most people will never even get close to it.

Additionally, the bench is super sturdy with very little wobble for a small adjustable weight bench.

Adjusting the bench is really easy. There’s a nice, easy pin-pulling system which saves you time and agitation (unlike a lot of other cheaply made benches).

The only real drawback I could find is the height. It’s 21 inches, which is a little high as far as weight benches go. So, if you are short it might feel a little awkward for you.

Other than that, I can’t recommend this bench highly enough. Whether you are a serious lifter or a beginner purchasing their first bench, Flybird is sure to satisfy your needs. The (now) endless testimonials and reviews prove this is a bench worth investing in.

MY 2ND CHOICE – MCNBLK Adjustable Weight Bench

Product Specifications

Dimensions 46″L x 15″W x 41″H
Folded Dimensions32″L x 15″W x 10″H
Weight30 pounds
Weight Capacity650 pounds
Pros
  • Sturdy and stable
  • Foldable (w/ carrying strap)
  • High weight capacity
  • 8 adjustable positions
  • Easy assembly
  • Lightweight
Cons
  • On the small side, not ideal if you’re over 6 feet

Features

  • Adjustable FID (Flat-Incline-Decline) bench with 8 adjustable positions
  • Foldable with carrying strap
  • Frame: Heavy duty 1.5mm commercial grade steel
  • Backrest cushion: Non-slip PU leather with foam padding
  • 4 mini resistance bands included (pairs of 15 and 30 lbs)
  • Foam footpad for decline position

Who is this Bench Designed for?

Lifters who want a small, space-saving bench with a relatively high weight capacity.

Finding the MCNBLK adjustable weight bench was like finding a diamond in the rough. Although it’s not as name brand as some of the more popular weight benches, after pouring through the reviews on this bench I knew I was looking at high quality weight bench for small spaces.

First off, this bench has a 650 pound weight capacity, which is high given it’s small size and foldability. It also seems to be stable and secure, although I would not recommend pushing it over it’s max capacity.

One of my favorite features is the carrying strap. Not enough foldable benches have this feature, and it makes transporting and carrying it so much easier. To fold it up, you simply set the backrest and seat to decline, remove the safety pin, and fold it down. Easy.

Another awesome feature are the 8 adjustable backrest positions. Most benches have 6 or 7 positions, so this one gives you even more adjustable positions to use, which can be helpful for certain exercises.

The biggest downside to keep in mind is the size of the bench. If you are over 6 feet tall, this is almost certainly going to be too small for you. One other critique I have is about the resistance bands; they are really lightweight and not challenging enough for most people.

Overall, most lifters are going to be satisfied with the MCNBLK due to it’s weight capacity, stability, and foldability. The size makes it perfect for small spaces.

MY TOP BUDGET PICK – HITOSPORT Adjustable Weight Bench

Product Specifications

Dimensions 49″L x 17″W x 45″H
Folded Dimensions28″L x 17″W x 13″H
Weight27.5 pounds
Weight Capacity550 pounds
Pros
  • Lightweight
  • Foldable
  • Super easy adjustment system
  • Easy, quick assembly
  • Good value for the money
Cons
  • Some reports of the bench having a slight wobble
  • Not ideal for heavy lifting

Features

  • Adjustable FID (Flat-Incline-Decline) capable bench, with 7 adjustable positions
  • Super easy and quick ladder adjustment system
  • Easily foldable
  • Footpad has two different positions and is detachable
  • Frame: Heavy duty steel
  • Backrest cushion: Non-slip PU leather covering

Who is this Bench Designed for?

Lifters who want a solid, budget-friendly option for light/moderate lifting.

There are a lot of crappy budget benches out there. And it took sifting through hundreds of them to find one that actually works.

Enter the HITOSPORT adjustable weight bench.

For a cheaper, budget option, the HITOSPORT has a fairly high weight capacity at 550 pounds. I certainly would be careful about pushing it to the maximum though. This bench was not designed for heavy lifting.

Speaking of which, it’s really lightweight (27.5 lbs) as well as being easily foldable. Simply set the bench to decline, remove the safety pins, and fold up.

One feature I really like is the ladder adjustment system. Most adjustable benches use a pin-pulling adjustment knob which can be really frustrating and time-consuming (especially if it has a poor build quality). But, with this one, you just lift the support bar underneath the bench and set it into place. For more info on the difference between pin and ladder adjustment systems, read this article.

The biggest downside is the stability. It’s not totally unstable at all, but there are several reports of it being a bit wobbly, especially under heavier weight. Again, don’t buy this bench if you are really large and/or trying to lift heavy weights.

For everyone else, the HITOSPORT is an excellent low-cost weight bench for small spaces.

3 Best Flat Weight Benches for Small Spaces

  • 7/32″ ALLEN WRENCH
  • 7/16″ WRENCH
  • 3/4″ WRENCH / 3/4″ SOCKET
  • 9/16″ WRENCH / 9/16″ SOCKET

Who is this Bench Designed for?

Lifters who want the ultimate combination of stability, durability, and compactness.

Rogue has done it again. Rather, this time, they have outdone themselves by creating a strong flat bench which also folds up.

Not only that, but Rogue has also included a wall-mounted steel bench hanger so you can hang it up on the gym wall when not in use. If you’re building up your home gym, this is a no-brainer. For everyone else, the easily foldable legs will save enough space.

At 48 pounds, it’s the heaviest bench on this list. But, it’s still light enough to pick up pretty easily.

And the heavier weight implies how much of a beast it is. This bench is made for heavy lifting. Rogue never lists a weight capacity for any of their products, but I think it’s safe to say this can easily handle anything you would throw at it. Even elite lifters using super heavy weight probably aren’t going to be maxing this thing out anytime soon.

Of course, always be careful when using heavy weight though.

The neoprene bench pad comes with the usual Rogue quality stitching and sleek, laser-cut logo. Not only is it strong and durable, but it’s also comfortable.

The only real issue with the bench is having the right tools to assemble it, which I listed above. If you’ve purchased from Rogue before, you might already have the tools needed. It shouldn’t take you longer than 15 minutes to get going.

If you have a little extra money to spend, you absolutely cannot beat this bench. The adage, “You get what you pay for” really applies here. Spend a little more and you will get a space-saving bench which will last you for years.

  • 1,000 pound weight capacity
  • Thick, durable padding

For a complete, in-depth breakdown of the Finer Form Foldable Flat Bench, check out the full review here

Features

  • Foldable legs
  • Firm, thick, and durable padding
  • Zero assembly required
  • Backrest cushion: high density cushioning
  • Frame: 15 gauge heavy duty, 4-way steel frame

Who is this Bench Designed for?

Lifters who want a seriously heavy duty and foldable flat weight bench for small spaces.

I almost gave the Finer Form Foldable Flat Bench the edge over Rogue’s bench. The margin was razor thin, so don’t let it’s runner up spot fool you. This bench is an absolute beast.

First, the weight capacity is 1,000 pounds! And this means it will be strong enough for pretty much any lifter.

Just as well, it is firm, stable, and secure with absolutely zero wobble. I know because I’ve owned this bench for almost a year. Immediately upon opening it I knew this thing would last for years. And there are no issues whatsoever so far.

Folding it gives you ten extra inches of space to save. To fold, you simply unscrew the knobs and fold the legs in. Takes about 30 seconds.

Now, the only potential issue I see is the backrest cushion. It’s definitely on the firm side. And some people might not like that, as they desire a more comfortable feel. Personally, I think the backrest cushion has just enough softness to be comfortable. But, it’s ultimately up to your own preferences.

I believe this bench is worth at least (if not more than) it’s usual selling price. If you want a weight bench for small spaces which will last for years (without breaking the bank), then this is it.

MY TOP BUDGET PICK – BangTong&Li Flat Foldable Weight Bench

Product Specifications

Dimensions44.8″L x 16.5″W x 17.7″H
Folded Dimensions44″L x 12″W x 7″H
Weight24 pounds
Weight Capacity660 pounds
Pros
  • Foldable legs for easy storage
  • Lightweight
  • Comfortable padding
  • Non-slip rubber end caps
  • Easy assembly
  • Full refund gurantee
Cons
  • Not ideal for heavy lifting

Features

  • Foldable legs
  • Comfortable and thick padding
  • Easy and quick assembly
  • Backrest cushion: 2.7″ thick dense foam pad covered with anti-skid covering
  • Frame: heavy duty steel tube

Who is this Bench Designed for?

Lifters who want a solid, budget-friendly, and space-saving bench.

I had my doubts when I first saw this bench. I mean, “BangTong&Li”? Certainly not a household name. But, after going through all the reviews (and there are over 1,000 of them currently), I recognized this was a quality weight bench for small spaces.

The 650 pound weight capacity is lower than the other two flat benches on this list, but still more than enough for the average lifter.

One aspect I really like is the padding: it is firm but totally comfortable. As far as the structure and support, for the price the bench is surprisingly stable and sturdy. So don’t think just because it’s priced lower you’re going to have to sacrifice stability. Because you won’t.

Folding it is easy and quick. And it saves you ten inches of space.

The one downside is this bench probably isn’t ideal for heavy lifting. There were some reports of people believing the quality and durability may be on the cheaper end.

However, if you’re willing to invest in a lesser-name brand to save a little money, you will be surprised at how high quality it is.

How to Choose a Weight Bench for Small Spaces

Always remember to keep in mind what your goals are when choosing a weight bench. If you are lifting heavy weights, you are going to want a bench with higher weight capacity. If your primary goal is to save space, you are going to want to choose a small one that is probably lighter. Possibly a fold away weight bench.

Here are some of the barometers I used to pick the benches on this list:

  • Bench Length – obviously, for small spaces, the shorter the better
  • Weight Capacity – the higher the weight capacity, the sturdier it most likely is
  • Foldable – not all the benches on this list are foldable, but I tried to include as many as I could, as this obviously saves space
  • Bench Width – too narrow of a bench may be awkward to lift on
  • Warranty – accidents can happen, benches can show up damaged or defected, better to know you have an option to get your money back

From my experience, you want to avoid benches that:

  • are too big and heavy
  • are either too tall or too short (depending on your height)
  • have large footpads or bases that get in the way of your feet
  • have an extremely low weight capacity (<400 pounds)
